Acai Berry Acai Berry Provides Disease-Fighting Benefits

Hi everyone, sorry it's been a bit since I posted, been working on a talk I am giving at a local college. A few people have emailed me for the list of benefits from Acai Berry and if the Acai Berry Provides Disease-Fighting

Acai Berry Benefits:

The Acai Berry which is commonly pronounced a-sigh-ee, is a rather small, round, and black-looking purple. It resembles a grape or a blueberry, but is yet smaller and darker. This fruit has a large seed and minimum amount of pulp. The acai fruit berry is now broadly used in energy juices, ice cream, certain energy bars with granola.

Acai has been used for many generations by the natives of
Brazil. Acai boasts 10 times the antioxidant benefits of grapes and twice that of blueberries. Here are some of the health benefits Boosts, more energy, improved digestion, promotes sound sleep, 100% of your daily vitamins, free radical fighter, loaded with Antioxidants, Strengthens your immune system, promotes younger looking skin.

These are just some of the benefits that have been reported. While some call it a miracle food, I just drink it to stay healthy. My opinion is that it has helped me, and know that it has also helped a lot of other people. I feel that more research is needed to flesh out these benefits for sure, but I'll drink my Monavie while we wait.

Have a great week! Email me your stories at acaiguymail@gmail.com

(as always before you start any new health program always consult a Doctor, these are opinions and based on personal stores of the Acai Berry)

Acai History

Here is some info I found of the history of the Acai Berry. enjoy!

From mother nature deep in the forests of Brazil comes the the acai berry has been around for thousands of years and not until the 1990's was it introduced to the western world. The acai berry was found to possess tremendous health properties. The acai berry was first used by the tribes of the Amazon jungle as a cure for various ailments. It is estimated that the indigenous tribes people routinely use up to 2,000 of the 3,000 known rainforest fruits for medicinal purposes. The Amazon borders eight different countries and has the world's largest river basin. Not only does the Amazon supply one fifth of the worlds freshwater, it has the highest diversity of birds and freshwater fish. The Amazon is the largest rainforest in the world where one third of all animal and plant species live. The acai berry is just one of these fruits that has been discovered in this vast region. The Shuar tribes are one of these Amazonian tribes that have for centuries, through tradition, kept the use of plants (acai berry) for medicinal purposes.

Medicine men or women are called uwishin (oo-wee-sheen') a healer that works with medicinal plants, somebody who knows all the secrets of the rainforests. Uwishin, have a great deal of knowledge of medicinal plants and their cures, they learn from others, and through experiments from the plants themselves. One plant removes snakes venom from the body. It is the work of the uwishin to research and find solutions to illness.

It was discovered to have natural antioxidant properties, as well as being a natural cholesterol controller. When eaten it helps reduce the bad cholesterol in our blood and increases the good cholesterol. The tribes of the Amazon knew of these properties and found out that it helped build the immune system, fight infection, protect the heart, and control prostate enlargement (nature's viagra). It was a great energy food for the tribes-people. The acai berry, which is a palm fruit, was traditionally pulped to make wine that was rich in minerals. The acai berry was also discovered to fight schistosomosis, which is transmitted by snails. Schistosomosis affecting more than 10 million Brazilians. The acaí berry is also used to produce an antibiotic that helps to fight against 'Staphylococcus aureus,' a common infection contracted mainly in hospitals. A berry so useful but only known to the traditional tribes men and woman of the Amazon, a lost secret.

The acaí berry comes from a palm that has a long thin trunk up to 25m high with a group of branches at the top from which hangs ribbon-like leaves. Acaí berries hang from these branches in clusters that look like groups of bluebottles. Traditionally the acai berries would be picked by hand and the tribe's men would shimmy up the tree and cut the branches from the top of the palm tree rich in acai berries. Now that the acai berry has been discovered as a highly sort after crop by the population of Brazil it is mass produced, as it only has a 24 hour life span in which the properties of the juice are still active. The acai berries must be loaded into baskets and onto boats soon after picking. To get it to the markets in Belem's they would have to transport the acai berries over night.

What is so interesting is that each acai palm tree produces round about 20 kg of fruit per year and the wine produced by this fruit has become the most important product in terms of finance after wood forest products. Belem in Brazil now employs over 30,000 people on a daily basis to keep up with its enormous demand.

What about it's recent history? After being introduced into the western world it was realised by the modern beach going Brazilian surfer as a natural way to regain energy. The acai berry was pulped and frozen to keep it fresh and became a natural additive to the smoothies drunk along the beaches of Brazil. It was known to help your prostate and was seen as a natural viagra for the boys of the beach. It soon became a drink for the trendy, for the sand and surf brigade.

Health gold mine. The researches soon got hold of this magic acai berry and realised that it would be of great importance in the well-being and health of the western world, our diets are often over filled with fat and fast food, acai is naturally full with energy, it has a vibrant taste of berries with a hint of chocolate, is rich in proteins, fibre, vitamin E, minerals and essential Omega oils to reduce our bad cholesterol caused by our western diets. The acai berries fatty acid ratio resembles that of olive oil this is thought to be a contributing factor to low incidence of heart disease in Mediterranean populations. The acai berry contains similar properties as red wine in controlling fats in the blood and is a fair contributor to go up against the wine diets of the Mediterranean people.

A miracle fruit, acai berries also helps in preventing cancer due to it's antioxidant properties that are five times more potent than gingko biloba, a commonly used herbal therapy product.

Acai berry juice has been introduced into other products like bars and health snacks to be sold at gyms and health spars. It's history is important as by studying the effects that the berry has had on the tribesmen in the Amazon we have discovered that it's traditional use as an energy booster for hunting and good libido has lead to acai berry juice to being a very commercially viable product.

It's most recent history is that it has been endorsed by such talk show hosts as Oprah Winfrey and has been seen as a feature on her show, a berry with star success. So lets say good buy to guranum and hello to the magic acai berry.

In it to win it - Monavie and the Marathon

Hi everyone, thanks for your kind notes. My ankle is all healed up and I am feeling much better.

I got this great email that I wanted to share with you. It's from a guy named Ken in Canada. (before trying to treat any injury goto a Doctor for advise before starting any of these remedies)

AcaiDOOD,

Saw your blog and your injury. Here are some things that I like to do to help me heal. I'll start with saying that I drink Monavie daily but that can only strengthen in my opinion. I'm 25 time marathon runner and have run most of the top city marathons (though I work in the health industry by day)

Here are some great tips to helping an ankle injury.

1. Sit down and elevate it.
2. Use some Tiger Balm on it.
3. Ice it
4. Stretch it
5. Acupuncture (2-3 days after)

Depending on the sprain should be back in 10-14 days.

Hope this helps. Keep running!

Dr. Perricone and Acai berry

Happy monday. Thank you thank you! The traffic to the site has been wonderful and I really appreciate the emails. This weekend was a rainy so I curled up with Dr. Pericone's new book called "ageless face ageless mind".

It's very interesting. I think for one he's a great author but two he has some basic ideas that just make for a better lifestyle. He's basically saying that the benefits from eating healthy are endless and some foods can be eaten to help you look and age better. At the top of the list is the acai fruit from the Amazon forest the berry is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world. It can often be found in juice form in health food and gourmet stores.

As we all know it's harvested from the Brazilian rainforest is now gaining recognition for its high levels of the cholesterol-fighting fatty acids, Omega 6 and Omega 9, and its strong concentration -- up to 33 times that found in red wine grapes -- of anthocyanin, a powerful anti-oxidant. Dr. Nicholas Perricone says this the anti oxident is the key and the acai berry is especially noteworthy for the antioxidant properties afforded by its concentration of anthocyanin -- which is also present in red wine. What this does is prevents oxidants from harming connective tissue while repairing damaged proteins in blood vessel walls. The French, who are noted wine drinkers, have one of the lowest incidences of heart disease of any westernized society despite a diet high in cholesterol and saturated fat.

Then I found some more info on how Monavie Inc., started with the Acai berry. Monavie was started in 2004, is gearing up for launch on January 8, 2005. The company was formed to market a wellness product, the Acai Amazon Berry, in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Singapore and Australia. With 10 times the antioxidants of grapes and twice the antioxidants of blueberries, the Brazilian Acai berry is considered to have the best nutritional value of any fruit on earth.

The Acai Berry is taking the world by storm, and is becoming known as the most beneficial fruit in the world.

Got a Acai story to share? email me at acaiguymail@gmail.com thanks for reading!

Trish - Joint Pain and Monavie

Here is a story via email from Trish. I'm assuming that your from illinois, correct me if I'm wrong ok....

( Oh and again please consult a Dr. before starting any treatments for anything these stories are all just individual stories and not a medical claim)

Acaiguy,

I'm Trish, and saw your

Açai berry blog on yahoo.com. Reading the posts brought me joy today. I normally don't do much email but thought a superabundance was in order. 5 months ago I was suffering from joint pain and my son researched some different vitamins but also came across a Monavie site. He ordered me a bottle, and I told him I'd give it a try. That bottle sat there for months. My son came with his wife and daughters for Thanksgiving and I was so embarrassed when he discovered the unopened bottle in a cabinet. I had told him I forget, old age. That weekend he opened it and I started drinking it. It's now been 2 months and 5 bottles later and I feel great. Some of my pain and tenderness has subsided and feel good. Hope it's the Monavie but know it's got something to do with my thirst for life. South_side Trish
